Story time

The mother unicorn sits with an open book between her hooves and reads aloud. She wears a polka-dot scarf knotted around her neck and a flower in her curly mane. On one side of the book, lines of writing; on the other, a star. A ribbon tied in a bow hangs below the spine, like a bookmark.

A little one listening

The little one sits right next to her, a bow tie around its neck, and looks at her with big shining eyes. It is smiling: it likes the story. Around them are two clouds, a few stars, hearts and flowers.

Round shapes

The two unicorns are made of big round shapes, easy to color at four. The curls of the manes take a little more care. The pages of the book can stay white, and only the cover takes a color.

A polka-dot scarf

The mom’s scarf can be blue with white dots, or red, and the little one’s bow tie the same color. The book cover takes a bright color, with its star in yellow. The hearts and flowers all around pick up the colors of the scarf.

A word for the grown-up: in a story your child knows well, stop just before a word and let them say it for you. They wait for the moment, sometimes get it wrong and laugh, and are already “reading” in their own way.
