Everyone is asleep

Under a patchwork quilt, a mom and her baby sleep snuggled together, their heads on big pillows. The mom wears her hair in a bun tied with a bow; the baby has a pom-pom hat and starry pajamas.

A well-loved plush

Right beside them, a big unicorn plush sleeps sitting up, eyes closed and smiling. Its seams show, and so do two sewn-on patches: one on its forehead, the other shaped like a star on its leg. Above, a sleepy moon, two clouds and some stars keep watch.

Big shapes

The plush is a very big shape, easy to color at four. Color the squares of the quilt one by one, each in its own color. The curls of the mane take a little more patience.

Sleepy colors

The plush can be white, pale pink or lilac, with patches in another color. The quilt takes soft colors, with red hearts and yellow stars. The moon is pale yellow.

A word for the grown-up: when a stuffed animal comes apart at the seams, mend it in front of your child instead of replacing it. They choose the fabric for the patch, you sew, and they hold the stuffed animal to comfort it. A star or heart patch, like the ones on the unicorn, and the beloved toy is good for years to come.
