A surprise in the drawer

The unicorn has pulled out a dresser drawer, and inside, surprise: a little mouse with a unicorn horn throws up its arms and bursts out laughing, eyes closed. Sparkles spill out of the drawer and fall all the way to the floor. The unicorn, one hoof on the drawer, watches it with a smile.

An old-fashioned bedroom

The dresser is an antique, with carved drawers, handles and curved legs. On top of it stand bottles and vases, in front of a big mirror with a decorated frame and a lamp mounted on the wall. The wallpaper is dotted with stars, and two big patterned rugs cover the wooden floor.

A page for patient hands

With the patterns on the rugs, the carvings on the dresser and the fur of the two characters, this page has lots of fine spaces: it suits children six and up. The rugs lend themselves to patient coloring, pattern by pattern.

A cozy room

The dresser can be brown wood or painted white, with gold handles. The rugs take warm colors, red, orange and dark blue, like old-fashioned rugs. The stars on the wall can be gold on a midnight-blue background.

A word for the grown-up: play “Hot and Cold”: hide a little stuffed animal in a drawer or behind a cushion, then guide your child with your voice: “cold” when they move away, “warm,” “hot,” then “burning hot” when they are almost there.
