Good night, little baby

The room is ready for the night. In the crib, the baby is already asleep, cheek on the pillow, under a blanket decorated with a rattle. A mum, kneeling, tucks in the blanket with a gentle hand. At the foot of the crib, a little girl sitting on the floor, a bow in her hair, smiles next to the small unicorn, which closes its eyes too.

Sleepy time

On the wall, a crescent moon, stars and clouds surround the word “Dodo…”, French baby talk for sleep. It is the word of lullabies, the one in “Fais dodo, Colas mon p’tit frère” — “Go to sleep, Colas, my little brother” — that big sisters sometimes sing to the little ones. The girl in the picture could well be that big sister: she watches over the baby’s sleep, without a sound.

A room full of lines

At six, this page takes patience. The crib bars, the floorboards and the folds of the curtain make long series of narrow strips, to color one at a time. The shelf holds a teddy bear, a ball and a block. Through the window, you can see a tree. The tall format shows the whole scene, from the window to the floor.

Evening colors

For a room at bedtime, soft colors work well: a midnight blue for the window, a pale yellow for the moon and stars, pastel shades for the blanket and the girl’s outfit. The floor gets colored in light wood, board by board. The little unicorn keeps its hearts, which can be colored pink.

A word for the grown-up: if a baby has just joined the family, this page speaks to the older child. Invite them to choose the evening lullaby, or to hum it with you beside the crib: they find their place, like the girl in the picture.
