A mother keeping watch
In a cozy room, a baby unicorn sleeps in its rocking cradle, snuggled under a starry blanket. Its mother, a crown of flowers on her head and a bell at her neck, leans over it with a smile. She doesn’t make a sound: she is watching it sleep.
The cabin bed
Next to the cradle, a big bed is sheltered under a roof, like a little house: a gable marked with a star, curtains tied with ribbons, a scalloped valance. It is the big-kid bed, waiting for the baby to grow up. On the wall, a shelf holds a plant, a star and a heart, next to a starry frame; on the floor, a round rug with hearts and a ball with a star.
Straight lines and curves
The cabin bed is made of straight lines: the boards of the roof, the bedposts, the planks of the wall. The cradle is all curves, with its bars and its two wooden rockers. At six, this mix is good practice: you color the boards along their lines, then the cradle’s bars one by one.
A tender room
For a baby’s room, pastel colors are the natural choice: a very pale pink or blue for the cradle, a soft yellow for the bed’s roof, pink hearts on the rug. The zigzag blanket on the big bed can alternate two colors. The mother unicorn’s flower crown is the place for the brightest colors.
A word for the grown-up: tell your child how you used to rock them when they were a baby, and show them a photo of their first bed. Children love hearing the story of their first months.
