Full speed ahead
Sitting on a wooden sled, the unicorn zooms down the slope, its front hooves resting on the seat. It wears a knit pom-pom hat and a thick knitted scarf that flies out behind it. It looks delighted, and smiles at us.
A festive winter
Tall fir trees decorated with ornaments surround the hill, and smaller ones stand in the distance. Snowflakes of every size are falling, along with a few stars. At the bottom of the slope, two sprigs of holly and their berries are a reminder that Christmas is not far away.
Easy shapes
The unicorn, the sled and the hat are nice shapes, easy to color at four. The sled’s runners, all curves, need a little more attention. The snowflakes are small and many: they can stay white, like the snow.
A matching hat and scarf
The hat and the scarf can be the same color, red or blue, or striped. The sled takes a wood brown, the fir trees a dark green and their ornaments every color. The snow stays white, or takes a very pale blue shadow in the hollows.
A word for the grown-up: before the first sled ride, teach your child the rules: you go down sitting, feet first, never headfirst, and you walk back up along the edge of the hill so you don’t cross paths with the other sleds.
