On the ice
One hind leg raised behind it, the unicorn glides on its ice skates, one front leg stretched out for balance. Its striped, fringed scarf is wrapped around its neck, and it smiles, with rosy cheeks.
A frozen pond
It skates on a frozen pond, its ice marked with fine lines. All around, the snow lies in little heaps, and fir trees stand tall, decorated with ornaments and, for one of them, a star on top. A sprig of holly peeks out of the snow, and big snowflakes fall from the sky.
Just a few areas
The page has just a few areas, all fairly big: at four, you can color it without rushing. The unicorn and the fir trees are the biggest shapes. The ornaments and snowflakes get colored with the tip of the pencil.
Winter colors
The ice takes a very light blue, and the snow stays white, or gets a touch of blue in its hollows. The striped scarf can alternate two bright colors, red and white for example. The ornaments are red, gold or blue, and the holly berries bright red.
A word for the grown-up: no rink nearby? Skate in socks on a wood or tile floor. First move the rugs and the coffee table out of the way, then show your child how to slide one foot, then the other, arms out for balance. At four, they quickly find the rhythm, and laugh at their slips and slides.
