Face to face with a chick

A little winged unicorn sits in the grass, a crown of flowers around its horn and a star on its forehead. Facing it, a chick waves a wing hello. The little bird, freshly hatched, and the unicorn smile at each other.

Springtime

Next to the chick, four eggs decorated with zigzags, dots and flowers rest in the grass, where two ladybugs are wandering. Above, a rainbow links two flowery clouds, and blossoming branches reach in from each side. Butterflies flutter by: it is spring.

The tall format

The drawing fills the middle of the page: the unicorn and the chick in the center, the rainbow and the branches above. At four, the unicorn and the chick are easy to color. The patterned eggs and the little flowers on the branches take more care.

Eggs of every color

Each egg can have its own color, with patterns in another: blue zigzags on yellow, pink dots on green. The chick gets colored yellow, the blossoms on the branches pale pink, like a cherry tree’s.

A word for the grown-up: hard-boil a few eggs, let them cool, then give your child washable markers to decorate them with zigzags, dots and flowers, like the ones in the picture. A little craft session you get to eat afterward.
