A lookout on its rock
Sitting on a rock by the water, the unicorn holds a spyglass up to its eye. It is smiling with its mouth open, as if it has just spotted something. Stars are sprinkled through its mane and tail, and a little circle on its cheek is waiting for some pink.
A smiling boat
What it is looking at is a little wooden boat with a cabin, a door and a window. Its big sail has a smiling face, and a pennant flies at the top of the mast. Five seagulls fly above the waves, and more rocks rise out of the water at the unicorn’s feet.
Big areas
The sail, the hull and the rock are big areas, easy to color at four. The waves form bands you can color in a single blue or in several. The seagulls and the stars in the mane are smaller: you color them with the tip of the pencil.
Sea colors
The sea takes blue or turquoise, the rock gray or brown. The boat’s hull can be red, the sail white or striped, and the pennant a bright color so it can be seen from far away. The spyglass gets colored gold or brown, like copper and leather.
A word for the grown-up: play “I spy”: one person silently picks an object in the room and says only its color, and the other searches for it with their eyes, like the unicorn with its spyglass. Then switch roles.
