In the shade of the umbrella

The unicorn has settled on the sand under a big beach umbrella with scalloped edges. It wears round glasses, a flower in its curly mane and a shell at its neck. Between its legs is an open coconut, with a bendy straw and a little paper umbrella: it sips away calmly. Around it, an ice cream cone stuck in the sand, a striped beach ball and a bucket.

A real vacation day

The sun smiles in the sky, the sea makes little waves at the edge of the sand. A starfish and two shells lie on the beach. The unicorn does nothing but enjoy itself: the shade, the cool drink, the sound of the waves. It is the vacation page above all.

The umbrella in sections

The umbrella is the biggest shape on the page: it is divided into sections, with a scalloped edge to color separately. You can alternate two colors, section by section, like a real beach umbrella. The unicorn sitting underneath and the objects around it are simple shapes, just right for a four-year-old’s hand.

Summer colors

The umbrella can be red and white, or blue and yellow. The ball takes bright colors, one per stripe. The sand gets colored light yellow, the sea blue, the coconut brown. The sun, with its smiling face, takes a strong yellow.

A word for the grown-up: at the beach, point out that the unicorn stays in the shade of its umbrella, and use it to explain why we protect ourselves from the sun: a hat, sunscreen, shade during the hottest hours. The picture makes the rule easier to remember.
