Story time
Sitting in the grass, a little unicorn holds an open book in its hooves and reads aloud. It smiles, its cheeks dotted with freckles. In front of it, three little ladybugs are listening, each one settled on a leaf.
A good audience
The three ladybugs sit nicely in a row and smile: they like the story. Around them grow tall flowers, grass, clovers and a little mushroom. It is a reading session outdoors, in the quiet.
The unicorn and its book
The seated unicorn and its open book are big shapes, easy to color at four. The three ladybugs look alike: you can color them the same, or give each its own color. The flowers around are simple and clearly drawn.
Three ladybugs
Ladybugs get colored red with black spots, but there are yellow and orange ones too. The leaves take green, the flowers pink, yellow and purple. The book cover can be your child’s favorite color.
A word for the grown-up: after a story, ask your child to tell it back in three sentences: what happens at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. At four, it is a first step toward storytelling.
