At the water’s edge
Lying at the edge of a pond, the little unicorn leans over to look into the water. Stars decorate its mane, its body and its tail. In the water, its reflection looks back at it upside down, with the same starry mane.
The garden fountain
Behind it, a stone fountain with two basins spills its water into a big round pool, surrounded by flowers; its reflection shows in the water too. On a branch, a bird sings, and its musical notes float away. Tall trees, bushes, two mushrooms and two clouds complete the garden.
A mirror page
The picture reads like a mirror: at the top, the unicorn and the fountain; at the bottom, their reflection in the water. At four, color the unicorn first, then its reflection in the same colors. The little stars get colored with the tip of the pencil, or stay white.
Water colors
The water in the pond takes a light blue, the fountain a stone gray. The reflection can keep the unicorn’s colors, a little paler, as in real water. The bird can be blue or red, and the trees a deep green.
A word for the grown-up: at the edge of a calm pond, show your child their reflection in the water, staying right beside them. Then toss in a small pebble: the reflection breaks up into growing rings, then slowly comes back. At four, they’ll want to do it again and again.
