A giant book
At the foot of a big tree, a huge book lies open in the grass, so big that the princess and the unicorn each hold one side of it. On its pages are lines of writing, a heart, a star, a tiny insect and a flower. They both lean over it, smiling.
In the shade of the apple tree
The princess wears a crown, two pigtails tied with ribbons, a little cape and a bow tie at her collar. The unicorn, sitting down, has a flower in its curly mane. Above them, the apple tree spreads its leaves, where a few apples hang. Two mushrooms grow in the grass, with flowers.
Big areas
The trunk, the leaves and the pages of the book are big areas, easy to color at four. The princess and the unicorn are nice simple shapes. The apples and the little drawings in the book get colored with the tip of the pencil.
Afternoon colors
The leaves take a bright green, the trunk a warm brown, and the apples red or green. The book cover can be a bright color, and its pages can stay white. The princess’s cape and the unicorn’s mane can match.
A word for the grown-up: ask your child what the big book is about, and write down their story as they tell it, on the back of the page. At four, seeing their own words written down, then read aloud, is a real treat.
