Side by side

A little princess stands next to her unicorn, and they smile at each other. The princess wears a small tiara and a puff-sleeved dress, with a bow at the waist and three hearts on the skirt. The unicorn has a collar decorated with two flowers.

Under the rainbow

Behind them, a big six-band rainbow rises from one cloud to another. Two more clouds float higher up, and stars shine all around. Four flowers grow in the grass.

A rainbow to color

The bands of the rainbow are long curved spaces: at four, they are good practice for following a line without going over it. The princess and the unicorn are big shapes. The stars are small and many.

The colors in order

The rainbow gets colored in order: red on the outside, then orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple on the inside. The dress can pick up one of its colors, and the hearts on the skirt another. The clouds stay white or pale blue.

A word for the grown-up: make a rainbow plate: a cherry tomato cut into quarters, a carrot stick, a piece of banana, a slice of cucumber and a few blueberries. Your child names each color before biting into it.
