A mermaid unicorn
Half unicorn, half mermaid, she swims under the sea, swishing her scaly tail, which ends in a big fin. Starfish, a flower and a shell are tucked into her long wavy mane. She smiles, one hoof forward, as if to wave hello.
The bottom of the sea
Around her, five smiling fish swim among the bubbles. Seaweed hangs down at the top, and more grows on the seabed, with coral. On the sand lie a scallop shell, a spiral shell, an oyster open on its pearl and a starfish.
Scales to color
The mermaid tail is covered in scales, each one a little space: at four, they can be colored one by one or with broad strokes. The fish and shells are nice simple shapes. The many bubbles can stay white.
Sea colors
The scales lend themselves to a gradient, from turquoise to purple. The fish can be orange, yellow or striped. The sand takes a light beige, the seaweed green, and the oyster’s pearl stays white and shiny.
A word for the grown-up: at bath time, teach your child to blow bubbles in the water, mouth just at the surface, like the fish in the picture. It is one of the very first steps in learning to swim.
