Sitting in the grass
A little unicorn sits in the grass, its curly mane around its head and its tail as round as a pom-pom. It turns its head toward a bird and smiles, looking curious.
Winged visitors
All around it fly three little birds, wings spread, and five butterflies. Two little clouds drift across the sky. At its feet grow flowers and tufts of grass, and a tiny heart floats nearby.
A big shape in the middle
The unicorn fills the middle of the page: it is a big round shape, easy to color at four. The birds and butterflies are smaller, but their outlines are simple. The butterflies’ wings, with their circles, get colored one by one.
A meadow in spring
The birds can be blue, yellow or red, like a bluebird, a canary or a robin. The butterflies take every color, with circles of another color on their wings. The grass is green, and the unicorn keeps a pale coat with a bright mane.
A word for the grown-up: in winter, make a bird feeder with your child: a pine cone, a piece of string, and birdseed stuck on with a little vegetable shortening. Hung from a branch or a balcony, it soon attracts chickadees, which you can watch from behind the window.
