A walk in the garden

A girl with pigtails tied with ribbons walks briskly, a basket of flowers on her arm. She wears a puff-sleeved dress and an apron embroidered with flowers. The little unicorn trots beside her, its mane dotted with stars. They are heading toward a fountain with two basins, where the water cascades into a big round pool.

The bird’s song

On a branch above the fountain, a bird is singing: a few musical notes float from its beak. At the foot of the pool float lily pads, and cattails grow on the bank. The whole garden is calm. The girl smiles, and so does the unicorn: it is a lovely walk.

Two halves of the page

The girl and the unicorn fill the left of the sheet, the fountain and the tree the right. The characters are medium-sized, with a few details: the flowers on the apron, the woven basket, the stars in the mane. The fountain offers nice rounded shapes, easy to color at four.

Water and stone

The fountain gets colored light gray or beige, like stone, and the water blue, with a few highlights left white. The lily pads and grass take their green, the flowers in the basket every color. The bird on its branch can become a robin, with an orange patch on its chest.

A word for the grown-up: back from a walk, dry a few picked flowers between two sheets of paper slipped into a heavy book. A week later, your child can glue them into a notebook: it is the start of a pressed-flower collection.
