Out for a ride
A little girl sits on the back of a unicorn walking along, one front leg raised. She wears two pigtails tied with ribbons and two little braids, a dress covered in hearts with a collar and puffed sleeves, and strap shoes. She holds on to the mane, smiling. Under her, a saddle blanket edged with dotted lines. All around, stars, hearts, sparkles, two flowers and little clouds under the hooves.
A dream many children share
Riding a unicorn is a dream many children talk about, and this page draws it simply: a little girl, a unicorn, a ride at a walk, and nothing scary. The unicorn walks calmly, the girl smiles. At four, the child coloring often puts themselves in the rider’s place, and the page becomes a little bit their story.
A tall page
The two characters take up almost the whole sheet. The unicorn offers big calm areas: the body, the neck, the legs. The girl is more detailed: the ribbons, the braids, the collar, the little hearts on the dress. The stars and hearts in the background are many and small: you can color all of them, some, or none.
Hearts everywhere
The hearts on the dress, the blanket and the background can all take the same color, pink or red, which ties the whole page together. The unicorn stays pale, so the girl stands out against it. The mane and the long tail are the big curves of the drawing: they welcome the bright colors, in one shade or several.
A word for the grown-up: ask your child where the ride is going. To the castle, to the sea, to grandma’s? They can draw the destination in a corner of the sheet once the coloring is done.
