A very good little witch
Wearing a tall pointy hat, trimmed with a bow where a star and a moon shine, the little unicorn sits up straight and smiles at us. Its cape fastens under its chin with a star-shaped button, and a few stars have slipped into its mane.
Pumpkins all around
Two big pumpkins sit on either side, carved into smiling jack-o’-lanterns: the one on the left has triangle eyes, the one on the right has eyes squeezed shut with laughter. A smaller one, with no face, is decorated with curly vines. A bat flies across the sky, and autumn leaves fall among the stars: it is Halloween.
Big shapes first
The unicorn and the two big pumpkins are large shapes, easy to color at four. So are the hat and the cape, in broad areas. The stars, the leaves and the little curly vines take more care: you can save them for last.
Halloween colors
The hat and the cape can be purple, black or pine green, with the bow in yellow, like its star and its moon. The pumpkins take a nice orange, their stems green or brown. The leaves go from yellow to red, and the unicorn keeps a pale coat so it stands out in the middle of it all.
A word for the grown-up: carve a pumpkin together. At four, your child can scoop out the inside with a spoon while you cut out the eyes and the mouth. Keep a few seeds and let them dry: in the spring, you can plant them in a pot.
