Galloping over the rainbow
A girl with two braids tied with ribbons sits in the unicorn’s saddle, holding on tight. The unicorn gallops, legs stretched out, above a big rainbow resting on two clouds. Those clouds are smiling, like the two floating at the top of the page. The sky is full of stars, dots and little swirls of wind that show how fast they are going.
The dream ride
Riding a unicorn across the sky: it is a childhood dream, and the girl is all smiles living it. The picture doesn’t say where she is headed. Everyone can imagine what comes next: a castle in the clouds, the land of the stars, or simply the way home, in time for an afternoon snack.
A rainbow in even bands
The rainbow is the heart of the page: its bands are wide and well separated, perfect for practicing following a curve without going over the line. At four, you can color it band by band, turning the sheet if needed. The girl and the unicorn take more care, with the ribbons on the braids, the pocket on the dress and the tassel hanging under the saddle.
The order of the colors
In the sky, a rainbow always keeps the same order: red on the outside, then orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet on the inside. On the page it has five bands: red, orange, yellow, green and blue each find their place. The smiling clouds stay white or take a very soft gray, and the stars a golden yellow.
A word for the grown-up: on a sunny day after the rain, look for a rainbow in the sky together and name its colors in order. Your child can then check whether their coloring put them in the same place.
