The one clapping her hands

Four dancers go around in front of a very simple house: a girl with pigtails, a boy, a princess with a crown and a second boy seen from behind. Next to them, a granny in glasses with her hair in a bun is not dancing: she claps her hands, one foot raised, laughing. The little unicorn trots in the foreground, a star on its side. Behind them, the house with its door and big window, a tree, a plank fence and a sun among the clouds.

The beat of the song

In a round dance, there is often someone who sings louder than the others and claps the beat: here, it is the granny. “Dansons la capucine”, the French playground song, is sung to a steady step, and at the cry of “you!”, everyone crouches down. The page shows both ways of taking part: dancing in the circle, or leading the song from the side.

A very simple house

The setting is made of big straight shapes: the wall, the roof, the door, the paned window, the planks of the fence. These are wide, regular areas, easy at four. The dancers in the foreground need a little more attention where the arms cross. A few pebbles dot the ground, small circles that can be colored with a single touch.

A colorful fence

The fence lends itself to a color game: every other plank in a different shade, or all of them the same light brown, like real wood. The wall of the house takes a soft color, and the sun a strong yellow. The granny can wear the cheeriest colors on the page: she is the one keeping the beat.

A word for the grown-up: clap your hands like the granny while your child colors, and sing the round together. At “you!”, the pencil goes up, then you start again.
