A soaking wet mouse

The unicorn holds the little mouse by the tip of its tail. The mouse is coming out of a puddle: it is dripping all over, drops are falling around it, and it makes a little round mouth. The unicorn smiles kindly, with a collar of stars around its neck and a curly mane full of stars. All around, a few splashes, bubbles and a star.

Dip it in the water

“Une souris verte qui courait dans l’herbe, je l’attrape par la queue” — “a green mouse running in the grass, I catch it by the tail”: the unicorn does exactly what the French song says, and the mouse has just been dipped in water, as in the next verse. This one is a gray mouse, as its title says. At two, a child does not need to know the song: they see a wet mouse, and a unicorn holding it.

Two characters, big areas

The unicorn is big, made of wide, round areas: the head, the body, the legs, the mane. The mouse is smaller, but simple. The drops and stars are the only fine details, and they can perfectly well stay white. It is a page made for the very young, to be swept with a fat marker.

A blue puddle

The puddle is a good place to start: a blue, laid in a circle under the mouse. The mouse can be gray, like its title, or green, like the one in the song, as your child chooses. The unicorn takes a soft color, its mane one or two bright ones. At two, three markers are enough.

A word for the grown-up: sing “Une souris verte” while miming the gestures — catching by the tail, dipping in the water. Then ask your child what color their mouse will be: gray or green?
